Our Air Scouts are girls and boys aged eleven (year seven) to fourteen (year ten) and meet on Thursdays in the Waikanae Hall at 18:30 until 20:30.
Air Scouts run normal Scout activities but place an emphasis on learning about aviation.
They cover topics such as engineering, meterology and airmanship. We aim for every Scout to have the opportunity to fly once each year.
We have close links with New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF) and meet at the unit of No. 49 (District of Kapiti) Squadron, Air Training Corps (ATC) in Paraparaumu once each term.
Our leaders have an active interest in both scouting activities and aviation. They have been trained and taken additional examinations to ensure the safety and security of our Scouts whilst on aviation activities.
It’s not all about air; we also take part in all the usual Scout activities such as tramping, camping and teaching scouting principles. We offer a varied and interesting programme for all our members.
We are a recent addition to the Waikanae Group serving the entire Kapiti Zone. We began in October 2017 and have already been on two overnight excursions, been out and about in the community and will shortly embark on a day of gliding. Scouts wear the blue Air Scout shirt, plain black trousers or shorts (no logos or badges) and plain black shoes. If your child is currently a member of Scouts NZ, they will need a new shirt within the first month of joining us.
