Scouts are the world’s leading voluntary youth movement.
Keas, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers youth programmes are designed to educate girls and boys to develop their emotional and community skills as they try new experiences.
We meet at the Scout Hall, Russell Reserve, Ngaio Road, Waikanae.
What does it cost?
Membership fees are $80.00 per term in 2019 and are payable at the start of each term. These can be paid in instalments if you prefer by automatic payment. Please speak to Sue Lord our Membership Secretary on 027 947 5514 if you would like to arrange this.
There is a one-off joining fee of $30.00. If your fees are not up to date and you don’t have an arrangement in place your child may not be able to participate in all activities. Remember you can talk to us if you need to.

You must include the following details with your payment to enable us to allocate it correctly:
- Child’s first initial and surname
- Section (Keas, Cubs, Scouts or Venturers)
- Term (1 – 4)
A large portion of the fees goes to our National office. The rest goes towards payment of rates, power, insurance, etc.
We make up the shortfall in costs by fundraising and grants. Family support with fundraising is vital.
The Group scarf and woggle are provided by the group and are presented on investiture. The uniform shirt must be purchased by the member. www.scoutingdirect.co.nz is the official scout shop. If you have a child moving up to the next Section and you no longer need the uniform please think about donating it to the Committee for another child to use.
All members of the Waikanae Scout Group will need to participate in at least one fundraising BBQ per year, those that participate will be given a rebate on the following terms fees.
Each term the committee will run one other fundraiser for the Group. We ask that parents actively support these events.
Each section will also run their own separate fundraising events for some activities e.g. Jamboree, Flying, Skiing.
Our Joining Form must be signed by parents before youth members can take part in any Scouting Activities. This gives the Group permission to undertake low risk activities within the normal programme. For all higher risk, overnight and weekend activities you will be given an individual consent form for each event which must be signed and returned before your child can participate.
This form also covers consent to publish photos of members, so please note on the form if you do not wish your child to be photographed.
If your child is a Kea or Cub you must check that a Leader is at the Hall before dropping your child off. At least two adults (Warranted leaders/parent help) must be present for the sessions to run. It is important to come into the hall to collect your Kea or Cub. If your child is a Scout or a Venturer please check with the Leader about their preference for entering and leaving the Den. Suitable footwear must be worn to all meetings.
Parent help is required at most sessions. Please talk to your Section Leader about this.
Please ensure that children arrive on time and that you are on time to collect them. Please phone the leader if your child is going to be absent.
The Group consists of a Group Leader, a Committee (who oversee property, gear and finances) and the Section Leaders who run the youth groups. We are constantly looking for adult leaders and committee members. All leaders and committee members are unpaid volunteers. The children of leaders and committee members enjoy a reduced fee for their children in acknowledgement of their time.
